Jamie Oliver's 'Punchy Jerk Rice' Accused of Cultural Appropriation

Jamie Oliver's 'Punchy Jerk Rice' Accused of Cultural Appropriation Jamie Oliver is facing criticism for a new microwavable rice dish, "punchy jerk rice." The celebrity chef stands accused of cultural appropriation, because the rice dish doesn't contain the traditional ingredients of a Jamaican jerk marinade. Jerk marinade is traditionally used for chicken, pork or fish, not rice. Most jerk sauces contain allspice, scotch bonnet peppers, thyme, soy sauce, ginger, lime, garlic, onions and sugar. Oliver's features garlic, ginger and jalapenos, "to create a jerk marinade with attitude". Jamaican-born chef Levi Roots voiced his disapproval via Twitter. Levi Roots, via Twitter
