These daredevils might not have made it to the Asian Games but they held their own competition - flying down roads on wooden tricycles.

The locals in West Java, Indonesia, gathered for the obscure race last Sunday (19/08) afternoon.

Teenagers wearing leather suits and helmets clambered onto the home-made wooden motorcycles before speeding down the steep hills.

They even hit a small ramp which sent them hurtling through the air to the delight of crowds in the Cicantayan District of Sukabumi Regency.

Mohammed Noor, who attended the race, said: ''The vehicles are called Lori. It's a simple cart made of wood with two wheels behind and one in front.

''The lori is only used for racing. Brave teenagers take part in the race. They wear helmets, elbow protectors and knee pads.

''The length of the track is about 300 metres down a steep road and they can reach speeds of 40 miles per hour.''

This race was held as part of the celebrations for the 73rd Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. The winners received cash and trophies.
