New Telescope to Track Down Earth’s ‘Mini-Moons’

New Telescope to Track Down Earth’s ‘Mini-Moons’ Scientists published their findings of "mini-moons" in the journal Frontiers in Astronomy and Space Science. But what exactly are mini-moons? Researchers say they are tiny asteroids that get snatched up in
the earth's orbit. So far, scientists have only observed one. The space rocks are too small for current technologies to track down. These objects are only between 1 to 2 meters in size. Researchers are hoping a new telescope will make finding mini-moons much easier. It is called the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope. The LSST can track short-term objects in the sky. Studying them will give scientists a better understanding of the origins of asteroids.
