Have a look at this thought provoking video from my friends at World Animal Protection Chickens are sociable, inquisitive and adventurous, with distinct personalities. They also experience stress and trauma through appalling conditions on factory farms. They suffer in secret for every moment of their short, miserable lives before becoming meat on a plate.

I just watched it and am wondering: What have chickens done to us that's allowed us to have such little regard for their lives? I don't believe people are this careless. I do think we are horribly disconnected from the food on our plate and that this system is not sustainable and certainly not ethical. I wish I could just turn away from these videos and go bake vegan cookies and pray the world notices the secret suffering of farm animals. But I personally don't think that will happen until we all gain awareness and demand higher welfare standards for animals. It's a big problem but we have to start somewhere...
