Lightning Strikes as Monsoon Storm Downs Power Lines in Scottsdale

A lightning bolt struck right in front of vehicles on a road blocked by downed power lines in north Scottsdale, Arizona, on the evening of August 8, after a monsoon-season storm swept over the area, bringing damaging winds and rain.Brandon Barreiro was stuck in traffic caused by the downed power lines along North Scottsdale Road when he filmed the moment lightning struck. Startled by the bolt, Barreiro quickly turned his car around.The Scottsdale Fire Department said the storm downed multiple trees and power lines and said downed power lines caused the closure of Scottsdale Road between Deer Valley Road and Williams Drive, where Barreiro shot this video.According to ABC 15, Scottsdale Fire Department spokesman Jim Novotny said by 8pm power lines had fallen onto seven cars, trapping people inside.
