[ISSUE TALK] Pompeo said to have issued timeline to North Korea, but no progress made

美 강온전략 VS 北 핵 폐기 진전 - 우정엽 박사 대담

To discuss these latest developments we have Dr. Woo Jung-yeop,... from the Sejong Institute with us. Thank you for speaking with us today.

My pleasure.

1 - For a long time, Trump, Pompeo and Washington officials said there was no timeline on denuclearization. But it seems there is a timeline. And perhaps it's not surprising that North Korea has rejected it. What do you make of this report?

2 - Bolton has suddenly emerged and has been very vocal about North Korea in recent days. He has said North Korea has not been doing enough. Why do you think he's coming out so strongly?

3 - 38 North has reported on new findings from satellite photos saying North Korea has continued to dismantle its nuclear missile launch site. The report does offer notes of caution, but it does seem North Korea is at least trying to show it is dismantling part of its nuclear program, do you think there is some significance in that?

4 - Does this put pressure on the U.S. to offer North Korea more incentives?

4a - Contrary to Bolton, Trump has continued to praise Kim Jong-un and the North for taking steps towards denuclearization. Is Trump just playing 'good cop'?

5 - Reports are saying that a recent UN report says North Korea is continuing its nuclear and missile programs. This runs counter to the 38 North report. What should we make of these two differing reports?

6 - North Korean state media on Thursday called on the U.S. to work towards the declaration ending the Korean War, and that it's the only way to build trust. North Korea seems to be pushing back with its own demands, but do you think they can be reconciled?

7 - North Korea's foreign minister Ri Yong-ho met with the Iranian President Rouhani. Coming at a time when both sides are dealing with the U.S. do you think it will have rattled President Trump?

8 - Bolton also revealed that he talked with South Korea's national security advisor about the ships are suspected of carrying North Korean coal that were found to have passed through South Korea. The U.S. State Department has since said it trusts Seoul, but does it potentially damage South Korea's reputation?

9 - North Korea has also called for sanctions to be lifted. For South Korea they are in an awkward position. How can they navigate this situation?

10 - At the same time, the UN has announced it is allowing humanitarian aid to North Korea. And apparently it is the U.S. that proposed this. Why would they do that?

11 - The letter that was given to Kim by Trump is said to propose sending Pompeo back for further talks, and a possible second summit with the two leaders. Is this a surprise at all?

12 - Kim and Moon have been invited to the Asian Games. They have also been invited to Vladivostok for a forum. The United Nations General assembly is also coming up. Which do you think is the most likely that Kim Jong-un would attend?
