An inventor has built what has been described as China's first flying scooter.

In video captured in Dongguan city in southern China’s Guangdong Province on July 24, Zhao Deli sits on his creation, which resembles a giant drone, and flies to heights of six metres for around a minute before landing.

According to reports, the flying scooter weighs 60kg but is able to carry a load of up to 100kg highest speed can reach speeds of 72km/h. It can fly for around 36 minutes.

Zhao was born in the countryside and local media said he has harboured dreams of inventing a flying machine since childhood.

After trialing his device with more than 1,000 test flights, he was finally able to create his flying scooter.

He dreams one day to ride his own flying scooter above the famed Yellow River.
