Aashish P. Somaiyaa, CEO of Motilal Oswal Asset Management Co Ltd, told Mint that the intent of the regulator is that qualified buyers, who know what they are exactly looking for, should be given a cheaper (direct) option. “But somewhere the communication has gone that people who are buying directly don’t need advice. I don’t think that it the intent,” he said. “I think it needs a lot communication to help people understand that there are two kinds of offers. One, you go by what distributor suggests with an understanding that he will get commission. Else, if you are capable of making your decision, you buy the cheaper class directly. At the same that there are advisors who you can pay a fee to get advice.”
