The social media reaction began when Trump sent a short congratulatory tweet to the Coast Guard, which had posted a message about its 228th birthday.
Someone asked in response, "No tweet to wish happy birthday to @BarackObama??"
"When you tweet about the birthday of the USCG, you must realize you are basically inviting everyone to respond by pointing out it is also President Obama's birthday," another person wrote.
One tweeter called for action, saying, "Under every trump post we should post Happy Birthday Barack Obama until the end of the day."
Despite a lack of recognition from Trump, Obama received numerous online birthday messages, including from his wife Michelle, former Vice President Joe Biden, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
