The heatwave in China is killing thousands of fish

Thousands of fish have washed up dead in a reservoir in northern China due to the heat and drought.

Video filmed in Shenyang City in Liaoning Province on July 30 shows thousands of dead fish in Huanzidong Reservoir.

It has seen no rain since spring and at its maximum water level is only 10 centimetres.

Temperatures have reached 42 degrees Celsius but the fish in the reservoir are only able to survive in water that is below 38C. As a result, 25 tons of fish have perished, according to local media.

The reservoir management office had netted and buried the dead fish in an attempt to stave off disease, local reports said.
