Shayne Ward will miss Alison King but could be extending Corrie stint

National Television Award winner Shayne Ward hints to Digital Spy that he could continue on Coronation Street beyond the end of his one year contract, as fans are loving the new Connor clan.

The former X Factor winner also supports the idea of X Factor taking a year off TV to rejuvenate enthusiasm for the beleaguered talent show.

The National Television Awards took place last night (20th January) at London's O2 Arena. Among the big winners were presenters Ant & Dec who took home their 15th NTA trophy. Downton Abbey took the prize for best drama, with Suranne Jones taking the acting prize. EastEnders was the big soap winner, taking best serial drama and serial drama performance for Danny Dyer, but Coronation Street took one prize, for best newcomer Shayne Ward. In the battle between the Saturday night entertainment heavyweights, Strictly Come Dancing came out on top again, taking best talent show from The X Factor, and the BBC made it a clean sweep of the reality TV categories as Great British Bake Off scooped the best challenge show.
