President Trump on Sunday again threatened a government shutdown over border security.
"I would be willing to 'shut down' government if the Democrats do not give us the votes for Border Security, which includes the Wall! Must get rid of Lottery, Catch & Release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT!" Trump wrote on Twitter. "We need great people coming into our Country!"
Trump made a similar suggestion back in February.
"If we don't change the legislation, if we don't rid of these loopholes where killers are allowed to come into our country and continue to kill," Trump said at a law enforcement roundtable, "let's have a shutdown. We'll do a shutdown."
"I'd love to see a shutdown if we don't get this stuff taken care of," Trump continued.
"We have to strengthen our borders, not by a little bit but by a lot. We are so far behind the time," the president added. "And, by the way, the world is laughing at us because they can't believe these policies."
