The National Assembly held its final plenary session of the July extraordinary session and approved President Moon's three picks for the Supreme Court.
They are the head of the Supreme Court Library of Korea, Noh Jeong-hee..., the chief justice of a district court in Jeju, Lee Dong-won..., and Kim Seon-soo..., a former leader of a progressive lawyers' association.
The approval of the latter, however, was slammed by opposition parties who objected to his ideological orientation... and an alleged ethical lapse.
But the motion was passed as the minor liberal opposition parties largely did not oppose the nomination.
During the session, lawmakers also appointed Lee Chan-yeol... from the Bareunmirae Party as the chairs of Parliament's education committee... and An Min-suk... from the ruling bloc to lead the assembly's culture, sports and tourism committee.
All 18 of the legislature's standing committees now have their leaders.
