The White House held its annual "Made in America Product Showcase" on Monday, during which it used spoons made in China, reports The Hill.  According to Syracuse.com, it just so happened that a representative for the United States' last remaining flatware manufacturer was in attendance.
Matt Roberts, the president of Sherrill Manufacturing, was reportedly the one who identified a spoon as being made by Oneida, Ltd., a company that moved its factories from the U.S. to overseas.  Syracuse.com notes that in the past, a number of lawmakers have asked President Trump to purchase such products from US-based companies and Trump is said to have promised that he would. Doing so would be in line with Trump's stated commitment to promoting American goods, business, and workers.  "The single best tribute to our workers can be found in the unmatched quality and craftsmanship of the amazing products they bring from the blueprint to the storefront. 'Made in the USA' is a global symbol of unrivaled excellence," Trump is quoted as saying in a White House statement.
