Chris Cornell Statue to be Erected in Seattle The late Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman's wife announced the statue on what would have been his 54th birthday. Vicky Cornell commissioned sculptor Nick Marras to create a life-size bronze statue of her late husband in his signature boots, dog tag and long locks. Cornell was born and raised in Seattle. The grunge pioneer was found dead in a Detroit hotel room hours after a Soundgarden concert. He was declared dead by suicide on May 17, 2017. The statue will be erected Aug. 29 at Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture.
