New Shark Species Named After Eugenie Clark

A new shark species has been discovered.
The Squalus clarkae, otherwise known as Genie’s dogfish, is a newly identified species of deepwater shark.
It was named in honor of pioneer marine biologist Eugenie Clark.
Eugenie Clark died in 2015 at the age of 92.
She founded the Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida.
Clark discovered several new species of fish and conducted important research into shark behavior.
