UK heatwave reveals ruins of former village in Cumbria reservoir
  • 6 years ago
Incredible drone footage shows how the ruins of a submerged village have become visible following the UK's extended heatwave.

The video, captured on July 6 above Haweswater reservoir in Cumbria, shows how the remains of Mardale Green can be seen after the retreat of water during the hot spell.

The village was submerged by the Manchester Corporation in 1937 to form the reservoir.

Today, millions of homes in the north-east, including in Cumbria, face a hosepipe ban as the UK's longest heatwave since 1976 sees no end in sight.
