Trump: NATO Is 'Strong Again' 'Because Of Me'

President Trump on Tuesday said NATO is "strong again."

President Trump on Tuesday suggested that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is "strong again" due to his efforts.  "I had a great meeting with NATO," Trump tweeted. "They have paid $33 Billion more and will pay hundreds of Billions of Dollars more in the future, only because of me. NATO was weak, but now it is strong again (bad for Russia). The media only says I was rude to leaders, never mentions the money!"  Trump made a similar claim after the NATO summit last week.
"Prior to last year, where I attended my first meeting, it was going down — the amount of money being spent by countries was going down and down very substantially. And now, it's going up very substantially…since last year, they've raised an additional $33 billion that's been put up by the various countries," Trump said on Thursday.  "U.S. allies plan to increase spending by $11 billion this year," the Washington Post notes. "They began their spending increases after Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea, although the increases have accelerated in response to Trump."
