Amid Sacred Games Row: Trash India Abroad, Why?

Aamir khan gained infamy a few years ago for alluding that he was mulling leaving India because he didn't feel safe. Now Saif Ali Khan has told a London audience that those who criticise the Government these days end up being killed. Well no, we're still a free country. Not to say that there aren't maniacs operating in political guise out there. The recent vicious polls in Bengal have left all sides exposed. But one is lamenting or critiquing, the other is to take a generalisation and do India bashing. Saif's supporters say that he was making a colloquial statement and to take it otherwise is to take it out of context. Those who are upset are saying that it's very convenient to bash your own country. In the end, we should of course be free to criticise whoever we want, but at a time when globally where attempts are being pushed to make India sound like a country of rapists and riots, what responsibilities do we have as India's brand ambassadors?
