France World Cup victory: 2 fans dead, many injured in Paris

As France won the FIFA World Cup on July 15, jubilant fans thronged the streets in Paris cheering, dancing, rioting. After a while, the celebration turned from fun to fraught. Fans threw bottles and pelted stones at the police. The fans damaged public properties and businesses. Riot police chucked the smoke grenades into the crowd to disperse. A 50-year-old fan broke his neck after jumping into a canal. Another was killed when he crashed his car into a tree. Several cases of injuries were also reported. France won the World Cup after 20 years.
