Macrame: Knot a thing of the past
Macrame is making a comeback from its 1970s roots with artists creating contemporary pieces in unexpected scales, shapes and colors. The 21st-century interpretations of this bohemian style can bring a more relaxed and inspired vibe to a living space. In addition to plant holders, macrame has been reinvented to include wall hangings, jewelry and handbags. California-based Sally England is known for her tailored knotted wall hangings. England made these custom window panels for designer Nicole Hollis' remodel of the Kimpton Angler’s Hotel in Miami. “In life, everything seems to come around full circle,” said Maurine Adrezin, program coordinator for the Las Vegas Fiber Arts Guild. “It’s fascinating to see how macrame is being used now.”
