Spain: A fascinating country filled with culture and mysteries. From who married the statue of liberty to jumping babies, and the real origin of the word “gringo”, here are the most fascinating, unique and unexpected sides of Spain. What does “Gringo” means and where does it come from? You will be very surprised to know that most may have those answers wrong! It did not come from Mexico and the green military outfits of the US as in “GreenGo” and therefore described Americans. It actually comes form Spain!! Here is what happened, in the 1700s it was used to describe foreigners who where very hard to understand… like with an accent, but worse… as if they were speaking Greek or “griego” in Spanish. it eventually evolved into gringo!

I hope this has never happened to you but have you ever tried to manipulate something and it ends up going the total opposite of what you wanted? Well that’s what happened in Spain during the Fascist dictatorship of Francisco Franco. In the 1975 right before the dictator’s demise, he reinstituted the monarchy and chose Juan Carlos I to be his successor and king of Spain. King Juan Carlos I ended up dismantling the Francoist regime and institutionalizing democracy!! By 2008, The King of Spain became the most popular ruler. Now his son Felipe VI is the king. What would you do if you were king of queen?
