The storm once categorized as a super typhoon made landfall Tuesday afternoon, July 10, on Miyako-jima island in Japan’s Okinawa prefecture, but despite its Category 3 hurricane status, left the island mostly undamaged as it churned toward Taiwan.Filmmaker James Reynolds, who often shoots HD footage of natural disasters, managed to film the start of Typhoon Maria’s sweep across the island, showing rough seas and powerful winds. The storm will pass close to Taiwan late Tuesday into early Wednesday local time before accelerating toward the eastern coast of China, expected to make landfall Wednesday morning about 300 miles south of Shanghai, the Washington Post reported.
