'My Name is Mirian' - Celebrities Read Letter of Immigrant Mother Separated From Her Child

Hollywood celebrities are hoping to raise awareness of immigrant families being separated upon entering the United States in a new video posted on July 8 by the ACLU.The video, entitled “My Name is Mirian,” was produced by actor Maggie Gyllenhaal and shared on the official ACLU YouTube account. It features Ryan Reynolds, Chadwick Boseman, Julie Louis-Dreyfus and others reading a letter from a woman named Mirian who describes being separated from her two-year-old son. “My name is Mirian. I am a citizen and a national of Honduras,” the letter states. The woman wrote that she fled to the United States in January with her son to “seek protection from government violence in Honduras.”According to the letter, when they reached the United States, the mother and son were separated, and her son was moved to a facility in San Antonio, Texas. The video ends with the hashtag #MyNameisMirian. “No child should ever be separated from their family.
