'Reusable' Coles Plastic Bag Drifts by a Tiny Seahorse in the Ocean
  • 6 years ago
A diver along the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria captured this footage in July of one of Coles’ controversial new “reusable” plastic bags, floating in the ocean as a tiny seahorse drifts nearby.Australian supermarkets Woolworths and Coles introduced bans on single-use plastic bags in June and July this year, implementing new, thicker plastic bags for 15 cents at the checkout as an incentive for customers to reuse the bags or bring their own.The new bags have caused backlash from customers to such an extent that the term “plastic bag rage” has been coined. Many Australians voiced concerns people would continue to use the thicker, less biodegradable bags as if they were single-use, causing greater environmental detriment than benefit. This video of one of Coles’ new bags encroaching on this sea creature’s environment may support those concerns. Credit: onebreathdiver via Storyful
