Heat Wave Moves West, Leaves at Least 20 Dead in the East Over 90 million people in the US are under some sort of heat watch, warning or advisory. The advisory stretches from the Northeast to the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys and the Southwest.
For the eastern US, the heat will begin to fade on Friday. The temperature will rise in the West into the weekend.
There are fears the heat may exacerbate already blazing wildfires. The "County Fire" in California has charred 86,000 acres and is 30% contained. There’s high potential the fire will grow as the weather gets hotter and drier into the weekend.
