The Spanish NGO Proactiva Open Arms said that its rescue boat, Open Arms, docked in Barcelona, Spain, on July 4, with 59 migrants on board. The migrants on the boat were rescued from a dinghy in the Mediterranean on June 30.Both Italy and Malta had refused to let the boat dock in their ports, despite both countries being closer to the rescue site. The Open Arms docked three days after the Maltese government seized the Mission Lifeline boat, which docked in Malta on June 27 after six days at sea. The captain of the ship was charged with entering the country’s waters illegally and lacking the correct boat registration. The UN Migration Agency said on July 3 that in the Mediterranean alone, 1,405 migrants had lost their lives since the beginning of 2018.
