Surat installed underground garbage bins across the city

Surat installed 43 underground garbage bins in the city as part of a ‘Smart City Mission’. Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) set an example on how to rid the city of garbage spillage and its foul smell. The motive behind this step is to protect the environment and manage garbage in an economical way. This saves land space and the infectious smell is contained. Each bin can hold up to 1.5 tonnes of waste. The underground bins have sensors fitted inside them to alert the control room as soon as 70% of the container is full. Bins are divided into two sections, one for individual waste and the other for municipal carts bringing collected waste to dump.
