'Jordan, Open the Border': Syrians Chant as Thousands Stuck at Jordanian Border
  • 6 years ago

Thousands of Syrians who have fled Daraa province after a government-launched offensive in mid-June have arrived at the border with Jordan and Golan Heights. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that at least 120,000 Syrians have fled.“Thousands are already reported to have fled their homes but there is also the grave risk that the intensified fighting will see many civilians trapped, caught between Syrian government forces and their allies on the one hand and armed opposition groups and ISIL on the other,” UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said on June 29.The Prime Ministry of Jordan
closed the border and said that Jordan “cannot withstand the burden of hosting its Syrian neighbors, but is ready to work with the UN in fulfilling its duty without opening the border.”This video here was shared by a local activist group from Daraa. The video is described as showing Syrians stuck at the border, and demanding that Jordan open the border Credit: Nabaa via Storyful
