Built back better, that is the Nutmeg Palace, now home to the Upper and Lower Houses of Parliament. The formal handing over ceremony and Special Joint Sitting of Parliament was held this morning. Delegates and Grenadians from all walks of life attended the ceremony to mark accomplishment that was 14 years in the works, bless the premises and launch parliamentary proceedings. Parliament sessions have now moved from the temporary Trade Centre lodging, to its own space. The 23-million-dollar project, for the most part complete, was required following the destruction of York House on Church Street during the passage of Hurricane Ivan in 2004, the former Parliament Building. Today’s occasion marked a triumph of sorts, over the ravages of climate change as it has not only been rebuilt but constructed with climate resilience in mind. Tonnia St. Louis Lawrence tells us more.
