Paul: “We didn’t release ‘Yesterday’ as a single in England at all, because we were a little embarrassed about it - we were a rock’n’roll band. (…) I remember thinking that people liked sad tunes; they like to wallow a bit when they’re alone, to put a record on and go, ‘Ahh.’ So I put the first verse together, then all the words fitted and that was it. (…) I am proud of it.”
With more than 2200 cover versions, Yesterday is one of the most covered songs in the history of recorded music.
