Cyclist beats 127-year-old penny farthing record

An endurance cyclist has set a British record for the furthest distance travelled on a penny farthing in an hour.
Mark Beaumont from Perthshire in Scotland covered 21.91 miles (35.2 kilometres) on the high wheeler at the Herne Hill Velodrome in London on Friday (June 15).
Beaumont, a 35-year old Scot from Perthshire, is no stranger to setting records. Last year he cycled around the world in 78 days 14 hours and 40 minutes completing over 18,000 miles (29,000 km) en route.
Beaumont was supported by eight other riders who would help him to try to beat the 127-year old world record. Their role was as pacemakers and to help him slipstream going down the straight.
Beaumont’s bike was 1.42 metres in height and was specially made for the record attempt.
While he broke the British record, Beaumont fell short of setting a new world record by around 274 metres, according to reports.
