Niti Aayog in its report has indicated that India is facing its worst crisis in history. As per the report, 600 million Indians face high to extreme water shortage, and about 2 lakh people die every year due to inadequate access to potable water. Moreover, the study said that the water crisis will only worsen as the country's water demand is projected to be twice the available supply in 2030. Meanwhile, amid severe water crisis, the BMC has increased water charges by 3.72% per 1000 litres for domestic users.
