Taco Spice Seasoning Recipe 3 Ways

We get it… Buying a package or jar of pre made taco seasoning is super easy and convenient. But; making it yourself at home is also pretty easy, it keeps for a long time, and you can control flavour and salt levels. Plus you get to play around and have something that is uniquely your own. Here we show you 3 homemade taco spice blends, these are great on beef, pork, lamb, and shrimp!

Ingredients:
1 Tbsp (15 mL) salt
1 Tbsp (15 mL) pepper
1 Tbsp (15 mL) ground cumin
1 Tbsp (15 mL) paprika
1 Tbsp (15 mL) chili pepper
1 tsp (5 mL) garlic powder
1 tsp (5 mL) onion powder
1 Tbsp (15 mL) Mexican oregano
2 tsp (10 mL) cinnamon

Method:
Put all of the ingredients in a jar and shake.

Variation #2
Swap out the paprika for smoked paprika.
Grind a smoked chile - of your choice - and add to the mix.

Variation #3
To either variation #1 or #2 add 1 Tbsp (15 mL) of cocoa powder.

**Tip: If you can’t find Mexican Oregano, use Marjoram, it has a flavour profile that’s closer than Mediterranean Oregano.
