The World Today With Tariq Ali - Colombia: 2018 Elections Special
  • 6 years ago
Ahead of the second round of the President Election in Colombia on 17th June, Tariq spoke with Forrest Hylton, who teaches at the National University of Colombia in Medellin and is the author of ‘Evil Hour in Colombia’.

Colombia will decide on a new president on the 17th June 2018. Centrists candidates failed to get past the first round so there’s a very clear ideological choice for voters this year. If voters elect for hard right Ivan Duque, it could risk damaging the peace process with the FARC, while a vote for former guerrilla Gustavo Petro will certainly help to unify warring factions in Colombia.
