DC Metro Trolls Trump With Capitals Parade Crowd Size Tweet

The DC Metro on Tuesday tweeted about the Capitals' parade crowd size.

In a single tweet, WMATA, Washington, DC's transit agency, managed to troll the White House and give an update on attendance at the Capitals' Stanley Cup event.  "We know a lot of you are interested in ridership numbers, and we'll have those for you in a bit," a tweet by its Metro account stated. "For now, we can say: 'This is the largest audience to ever witness a @Capitals victory parade. PERIOD.'"  The crowd-size comment is, of course, a reference to then-White House press secretary Sean Spicer's statement about the number of people at President Trump's inauguration. After criticizing the media for showing pictures of a sparsely populated field, Spicer asserted, "This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period."  DC's Metro was among the many that provided evidence to the contrary.
Estimates placed the figure at a fraction of former President Barack Obama's first term inauguration crowd.
