Boxing match called off after invasion of giant moths

These two boxers couldn't beat nature - and their match had to be called off following an invasion of moths.

The two teenage Muay Thai fighters were battling it out at an outdoors boxing ring in Ubon Ratchathani, northeast Thailand on March 9 when the creatures descended on the arena.

Thousands of moths filled the air - making it difficult for the pugilists to see each other - but the knockout blow came when they carpeted the canvas.

The red corner eventually threw in the towel and urged the referee to postpone the match and turn off the lights in an attempt to keep the creatures away.

Onlooker Nan Noisong said: ''It's unusual to have so many moths come onto the ring. I think they were attracted by the lights.''
