Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell cancelled most of the legislature's August recess.
According to Politico, McConnell cancelled most of the recess to give lawmakers more time to pass spending bills, while confirming more judicial and executive appointees for President Donald Trump.
But cutting most of the late-Summer recess will also prevent Democratic senators facing re-election from campaigning in the months before November.
