There Are Now More Open Jobs
Than Unemployed Workers In a press release on Tuesday, the Labor Department revealed that there were 6.7 million job openings at
the end of April, compared to only 5.4 million separations (quits, layoffs,
discharges and etc.). According to the Labor Department, it is the first time this has happened in nearly 20 years. Over the 12 month period between April 2017 and April 2018, there were 66.1 million hires and 63.7 million separations, a net employment gain of 2.4 million. Many of the jobs came from the manufacturing industry while the finance and insurance industry lost more jobs
than it gained.
