At least seven people were killed and hundreds injured when Guatemala’s Fuego volcano erupted on Sunday, June 3.A wall of volcanic mud and water swept through at least two villages in Escuintla Department, burying homes and vehicles, according to Prensa Librea.Volcanic ash also disrupted travel for many, with Guatemala City’s La Aurora International Airport temporarily closed and roads and vehicles clogged in grit and dust. Samuel E Skit complained in a Facebook post that the volcanic dust blocked windscreens, making it impossible to drive. He thanked the staff at a Chimaltenango gas station for washing his car.
