Payment For Kim Jong Un's Singapore Hotel Stay Presents A Logistical Challenge
  • 6 years ago
The Washington Post reports on an unexpected issue for the June 12 summit - who will pay for Kim Jong Un's hotel stay?

The U.S. is facing an unusual logistical challenge in planning President Trump's historic meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore.
According to the Washington Post, the financially strapped regime has made it a condition that another country pay for its lodging expenses at a pricey hotel called the Fullerton, "where just one presidential suite costs more than $6,000 per night."
And while the U.S. is reportedly open to covering the cost, insiders have indicated that North Korea may be opposed to the move (potentially deeming it "insulting") and as such, Singapore may be asked to foot the bill.
CNN reports, this is one of many details being worked out for the June 12 summit which Trump announced on Friday is back on after a meeting with senior North Korean official Kim Yong Chol.
Trump's renewed participation comes a week after pulling out of the meeting over what he called the regime's "open hostility."
"We're over that, totally over that, and now we're going to deal and we're going to really start a process," Trump told reporters on Friday. "We're meeting with the chairman on June 12, and I think it's probably going to be a very successful — ultimately, a successful process."
