A polar bear has been born in the UK for the first time in 25 years. Staff at the Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig in Strathspey and Badenoch estimate that the cub was born shortly before Christmas on December 18. They confirmed the birth after hearing distinct high-pitched sounds from mum Victoria's maternity den, which remains closed to visitors to ensure privacy. The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) have described the birth as an "outstanding achievement which will have interest across the world",
