England 1-0 Portugal - Roy Hodgson Post Match Press Conference
  • 5 years ago
Chris Smalling headed in a late goal as England finally broke down 10-man Portugal to secure an underwhelming 1-0 win at Wembley on Thursday night.

The win meant that Roy Hodgson's team head to France for the European Championship on the back of three successive victories.

Portugal, without a resting Cristiano Ronaldo, still have another friendly against Estonia before the tournament starts.

Bruno Alves was dismissed for a high kick on England striker Harry Kane in the 35th minute.

And it took England until the 86th minute to make their numerical advantage count when Smalling headed in from Raheem Sterling's cross.

It was the defender's first goal for England.

Portugal open their Euro 2016 campaign against Iceland on 14th June.

England, who have already beaten Turkey and Australia in warm-up games, start their bid for a first European title on 11th June against Russia.
