1,000mph supersonic attempt car successfully completes 200mph trial

The British supersonic car built to attempt a new 1,000mph landspeed record successfully had its first public trial yesterday - at a more modest 200mph. The Bloodhound has been nine years in development, combining technology from motorsport, space travel and a fighter jet. It will attempt to smash the current land speed record of 763mph in 2019 on a specially-cleared desert course in South Africa. At top speed it will cover a mile in just 3.6 seconds but today it had its first public 'slow-speed' trials - touching 200mph at Newquay Airport in Cornwall.
