Stunning video of tornado-like funnel cloud, spotted in the Channel Islands

The video was captured by photographer Pierre Bisson, 48, while he was out cycling on Sunday morning in Guernsey.

He spotted the rare weather phenomenon and quickly grabbed his phone to record it, before it disappeared five minutes later.

He said: "I was cycling and it then got very dark and then I looked round and saw this funnel cloud. I did not see it form - but it lasted for about five minutes and then dissipated. The storm itself was very concentrated. It only rained heavily for about five minutes and then the sun came out again."

Pierre said this was by far the biggest of the two funnel clouds he had ever seen - and says his photos even scared his own children. He added: "I had seen just one before, but this one was much bigger and it is a very rare phenomenon.

"I showed the picture to the kids who were very scared and thought it was a notice of impending doom. It was hovering over central Guernsey. But it was something quite incredible to see. I am not sure of its exact measurements but it is the biggest one I had ever seen and they are very rare.

"I only had my i-Phone on me so we whipped it out to get what I could and I am glad I did."
