London Fire Brigade stage massive disaster for training exercise

London Fire Brigade is staging the largest disaster training exercise in its 150 year history. It will also involve the Metropolitan, City of London and British Transport Police, London Ambulance Service, London’s local authorities, Transport for London and specialist urban search and rescue teams from across the UK as well as Italy, Hungary and Cyprus. In addition over 2,000 volunteers will be playing the part of live casualties over four days. The exercise scenario is based upon a tower block collapsing onto ‘Waterloo’ tube station. To create the most realistic environment possible a part of a tube station has been re-created inside a former turbine hall at the disused Littlebrook power station in Dartford, Kent.
