Police in helicopters swooped across Somerset villages and used a tannoy system to urge residents to abandon their homes. Coppers flew across drenched communities and warned homeowners to head to evacuation centres after experts warned of 'imminent danger to life'. Police used a huge tannoy fitted to a chopper to shout down to hundreds of people in Northmoor, Saltmoor and Fordgate. Emergency vehicles battled through the thigh-high water yesterday afternoon (Weds) to offer to evacuate the 120 most at-risk homes.
