12 - Nature of life… \r
We head off to Venezuela to take in the Sima Humbold sinkhole. Its 1030ft deep ad over 1000 feet wide. There are several incredible sink holes in Venezuela, and theyre all unique in that they have their own eco-system which has developed naturally. Scientists have no idea how they formed, and these are found nowhere else on earth. \r

11 - A real set back… \r
In the Bowling Green area of Kentucky, there are many naturally occurring sink holes. This can make any type of construction very risky and very expensive. During the construction of the Trimodal Transpark, one of these sinkholes appeared and destroyed a great portion of the area where they were meant to be working. \r

10 - Making a virtue of necessity… \r
Residents of Bimmah believe that this sink hole was created by a meteorite, although there is nothing concrete to prove that. Regardless of how the sinkhole formed, the residents of Bimmah has used this as quite the tourist attrion. \r

9 - Water – the driving force of nature… \r
And its due to the severe lack of water that these Dead Sea Sinkholes are plentiful. Youll find them near Ein Gedi in Israel, and coupled with the water shortage, the growing population and chemical industries cropping up – are all reasons given for the 3000 plus open sink holes. \r

8 - Devastating Effects… \r
This one sink hole that caused devastating after effects. Florida is known to get sinkholes, but nothing like what they experienced in 1994. This 15-story sinkhole opened up right underneath an 80-million – ton pile of gypsum stack, which is toxic industrial waste. This caused 90% of the drinking water to become contaminated, and it cost millions of dollars to get everything cleaned up. Residents nicknamed the hole – Journey to the Centre of the Earth. \r

7 - For the die-hard divers… \r
This sinkhole is in the ocean off the coast of the Red Sea. Its a submarine sinkhole, and about 426 feet deep. Many people go scuba diving there as well as free-diving. There are amazing coral and reef fish in the area, but the spot has been given the title of, “the Worlds most dangerous dive site”.\r

6 - An insatiable appetite… \r
Over in Daisetta, Texas, a pretty average 20-foot sinkhole occurred in a residential neighborhood. However, to the horror of the residents, within a day the sinkhole had expanded to 900 feet, swallowing telephone poles, cars and basically anything in its path. Several homes were ruined when oil field equipment fell into the hole, causing a mixture of oil and mud to form. \r

5 - A recent event… \r
The 8th of November 2016, saw a huge portion of a street in Japan to just collapse. It was outside the JR Hakata railway station, and caused traffic to come to a standstill and even affected the banking systems. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and offices nearby had to be evacuated. Its thought it might be the results of nearby construction, but investigations are still being conducted. \r

4 - Not for people with chiroptophobia…\r
Thats the fear of bats… and if you visit this sinkhole, fondly referred to as the Devils Sinkhole, over in Edwards County Texas, you will be horrified to learn that its also home to 3 million bats! It has a drop of about 400 feet, and is an incredible natural bat habitat. \r

3 - As if one wasnt enough… \r
new saw another massive sinkhole hit Guatemala City. This time sadly, it killed 15 people. It literally swallowed a 3-story fory, was 65 feet wide and 100 feet deep. Tropical Storm Agatha was one of the blaming fors, a recent Volcanic eruption and possible leakage from underground sewer pipes.\r

2 - A world record… \r
The Xiaozhai Tiankeng, thank goodness also known as Heavenly Pit, is officially the worlds deepest sinkhole. It was first discovered in 1994 during the China Caves Project, but the locals have known about the sinkhole forever. Its now pretty popular with tourists, but be prepared to walk down 2800 steps just to reach the bottom. \r

1 - Eaten alive… \r
In Samara, a city in Russia, it looks like the cars are being eaten alive. Massive sinkholes are cropping up all over the place, and people are losing their vehicles to these monsters. By looking at all the images, you would think it comes straight from a , and sadly people have lost their lives because of it. Its blamed on the severely bad weather – sometimes reaching -20 degrees Celsius and the poor road construction in the area.
