Two poachers caught trading in pangolin scales were arrested by the Quick Reaction Forest Police Unit (SPORC) in West Borneo on May 22.International Animal Rescue (IAR) shared a press release about the arrest on May 30, writing that the two men had admitted to hunting pangolins, a critically endangered animal, for the past three years. “They would ride motorbikes and use hunting dogs to track them down and catch them,” IAR said.A police unit confiscated 9.45 kilograms of pangolin scales during the sting operation. The intended buyer was not apprehended.Karmele Llano Sanchez, program director of IAR Indonesia, said: “The illegal trade in pangolins is both extremely cruel and responsible for decimating numbers in the wild. The illegal wildlife trade in general is pushing entire species to the brink of extinction. The trade is motivated by the greed of people who seek to keep, eat and exploit wild animals and their products. We simply can’t allow this to happen." Credit: International Animal Rescue via Storyful
