Battle for Karnataka: SC orders CM Yeddyurappa to take floor test tomorrow
  • 6 years ago
Newly appointed Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa will have to prove his majority on May 19. The Supreme Court ordered the floor test on May 18 when it resumed hearing of the Congress petition challenging governor's invitation to the BJP leader to form government in the state. BJP, with 104 seats, emerged as the single largest party in assembly but without the required majority of 112. After an overnight hearing, the top court had refused to stay Yeddyurappa's oath-taking ceremony but said the swearing-in and government formation will be subject to the final outcome of the case. After Friday's developments, the action is back in Benglauru and all eyes are now on what happens in the Vidhan Soudha.
